Influence of Public Child Friendly Pre-School Infrastructure on Realization of Effective Learning Outcomes in Nairobi City County, Kenya
This study focused on the development of infrastructure on school outcomes in public child-friendly preschools in Nairobi county, Kenya. The study sought to respond the following research question: How does Nairobi county government’s development of pre-school related infrastructure influence school outcomes in public childfriendly pre-schools in Nairobi county? The study was anchored on resource-based theory. Convergent concurrent design under mixed methods research was adopted. The target population comprised of 225 pre-schools, 9 members of County Education Board, 225 Centre Managers and 991 pre-school teachers and 33,815 pre-school learners from Nairobi County. Both probability and non-probability sampling techniques were used to ascertain a sample size of 45 pre-schools, 9 members of the County Education Board, 45 Centre Managers, 278 pre-school teachers and 380 preschool learners. Data collection instruments included, an observation guide, document analysis guide, questionnaire and interview guide. Face, content, criterion and construct validity were considered. Quantitative data were analyzed by the use of Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) version 27 to generate independent sample T-Test tables, percentages and frequencies while narrative, thematic analysis and verbatim citations were utilized for qualitative data. Ethical considerations were observed throughout the study. The study revealed that development of infrastructure has an influence on realization of school outcomes in public child-friendly pre-schools. The study recommends that there is need to modernize the existing facilities to make them attractive for all learners including those living with disabilities.
